I.XXV.XVII. The Great Soul

This drawing started life as another misread casino game. "Prowling Panther" was read as "Prowling Manther," which all by itself is pretty stupid.

I'm constantly surprised how complex constructions like faces can often be reduced to simple shapes: a circle and a hexagon make the face of a big cat. Since figures in cards for my Spinoolean Tarot projects do not have eyes, I gave this one spectacles. Mostly it's because when I removed the eyes, the face lost all of it's character. The glasses made my "manther" look like Gandhi to me though, and since "Mahatma" basically means "great soul," well...

This is probably my favorite drawing of January. It has all of the attributes for which I strive.
